Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPSS) and Distal Splenorenal Shunt (DIPS) are interventional procedures used to manage complications of portal hypertension, often associated with cirrhosis.

TIPSS involves creating a shunt between the portal vein and hepatic vein to reduce pressure in the portal system, effectively bypassing the liver. This helps alleviate conditions like variceal bleeding or ascites.

DIPS, on the other hand, connects the splenic vein to the left renal vein to reduce portal pressure. DIPS is less commonly performed than TIPSS but can be a suitable option for specific cases.

Both procedures aim to reduce complications of portal hypertension and improve the patient’s quality of life.
