TACE Procedure for Liver Cancer (TACE)
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat liver cancer, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma. During TACE, a catheter is threaded through a blood vessel in the groin to the arteries supplying the liver tumor. Chemotherapy drugs are then directly injected into the tumor or the blood vessels feeding it, followed by the injection of tiny particles that block blood flow to the tumor. This dual action helps target and destroy cancer cells while limiting their blood supply. TACE can be used as a primary treatment or to shrink tumors before surgery or transplantation, improving patient outcomes.
